It is always one of the busiest times of the year here on the farm but Mike’s decision to take on the project of becoming WA’s only commercial Spanish Pepper grower means he has really had to draw on the stamina gained in his ultra marathon days. Last week bringing in the garlic was interrupted by the arrival of about 3000 infant Padron, Piquillo and Nora peppers ready for planting. He had been waiting for this for weeks! So everything stopped as the new babies were adored and then the first of them planted … and not just any old way but in military-precise rows into earth prepped with various nutritions and levelled to billiard table smoothness.
Special thanks here to Maarja and Tomas who are currently helping us out with a view to gaining second year visas (and who inadvertently now hold the Greenman Produce Award for excellence in Garlic Wrangling).
